In 1999, Matt Floyd founded Trinity Healthcare Staffing Group with one mission: To relentlessly deliver excellence in healthcare staffing
. As a travel RN, Matt experienced first hand the challenges of working with an agency—many staffing companies were known for high turnover and fluctuating standards, which led to distrust, frustration, and disappointment. His belief that both hospitals and nurses deserved better lead him to create his own travel nurse agency, one that valued reliability and honesty. This is the vision and foundation that Trinity was built on.
Over the years, Matt’s dedication and focus on team atmosphere within Trinity created a professional culture that is recognized, admired, and respected in the healthcare staffing industry. Today, Trinity is one of the nation’s largest nurse staffing companies, has been listed on the Inc. 5000 fastest growing companies list 6 times, on the South Carolina’s 25 Fasting Growing Companies list 3 times.
During Nurses Week this year our Director of Housing, Michelle Saletto Muldrow shared this thank you to Matt for the impact that he has had.
"As we are all celebrating nurses week this week, I just wanted to take a few minutes to give a shout out and huge thank you to Matt Floyd, our most favorite nurse of all. Not only did you go into the field of nursing to help people but you took it a step farther. You opened this wonderful company which gives us all a great opportunity to work at a place we love, and by doing so, it allowed you the opportunity to help hundreds of other nurses to be able to help thousands of more patients. Your ability to help people yourself has reached far, and we all thank you."
We’re happy to say that Trinity’s philosophy is working and growing, and Matt’s vision for a healthcare staffing agency that would do what it promised has become a reality.
Get to Know Matt
How did you first get into the profession of travel nursing?
I got into travel nursing to change scenery, meet new people and see new places.
What were your biggest frustrations as a travel nurse with staffing agencies?
Agencies seemed to be plagued with misleading or dishonest communication regarding assignments and benefits, and an unwillingness to resolve problems leaving their nurses to fend for themselves.
What was your vision in founding Trinity?
My vision for Trinity was to create a better company in our industry—one that placed the priority on excellence in service delivery to client and nurse, and to create a culture that values it’s people.
Why is the recruiter-nurse relationship so important to you?
The relationship between the nurse and their recruiter is key because when professionals travel, they are often away from home and support. A high level of trust is needed that the recruiter will be honest in communication, available, able and willing to help with whatever issues may arise.
What are your 3 top reasons why you believe a travel nurse would choose Trinity over another staffing agency?
The first is vision. As a whole, we relentlessly pursue and deliver excellence in healthcare staffing. This has made us not only one of the most trusted names in travel nurse staffing, but also one of the largest companies in the industry.
Second, it's our people. We've worked tirelessly for years to assemble a team of the finest folks in the business. These are people who truly care about the healthcare professionals we employ.
And lastly, it's our reputation. With great people pursuing a worthwhile vision we have obtained a great reputation by consistently, delivering on our promises for the last 16 years. We do what we say we’ll do.
What are the key things you have learned throughout this experience about travel nursing, staffing, and personal growth?
I’ve learned from THSG that a desire for personal growth is essential. Good people expect good leadership. We continue to grow, change and develop individually and as a team.
What do you want to say to Trinity nurses?
I’d like to offer a hearty "Thank You" to the nurses who help make the company what it is each day by delivering excellence in service to patients and clients across the nation.
Together we’ve made a positive difference, brought about positive changes in the industry, and will continue to do so in years to come.
