Tara Smith is one of Trinity's experienced Recruiters! She's worked as a recruiter for 9 years & is eager to make sure each travel nurse finds the right job every time.
The "Skinny" on Tara . . . .How long have you been a recruiter?
I will have been a Travel Nurse Recruiter with Trinity Healthcare for 9 years this November.
What did you do before recruiting?
Prior to working for Trinity, I worked as an Allied Health HR Generalist at Providence Hospital in Columbia, SC for 2 years. I handled recruitment and retention for Respiratory, PT/OT/SLP, The Lab (Phlebotomists, MT/MLTs) , and Radiology. Prior to that I worked for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in Atlanta, GA as a recruiter assistant for the Allied Health Recruiter for a year and that is where I was 1st introduced to Healthcare and Healthcare recruitment.
What’s your favorite dessert?
Would you recommend travel nursing? Why / Why not?
Absolutely. It's not for everyone, but if you are an experienced RN looking for new experiences both in your field and in a new city or town, travel nursing has a lot of benefits. Some of those benefits are learning new computer system, growing clinically and meeting new people.
If a traveler, asked you to give them a random piece of advice, what would you say?
One of my travelers Julie once told me something and I thought it sort of summed up what to expect, "starting a new travel assignment is like cooking in someone else's kitchen, I know how to cook, but I need to learn where to find everything that I need to do it."
Do you like to plan things out in detail or be spontaneous?
I like to have a plan, but I also like some spontaneity in my life. I have learned in life to always expect change and you have to roll with the punches. It makes things exciting and keeps me on my toes.
How do you like your steak cooked?
Medium Well. I am not a fan of raw meat. If I am going to go raw, I’d rather hit the sushi bar.
What are some of the first things you do in the morning?
I have 3 young boys, so I like to get up early before everyone to have some time to myself before "all the craziness" begins. I try to get a run in to start my day. It helps me to have some "me" time and put things into perspective and it gives me the extra energy boost I need for my day.
